I’m not sure the favorite child vote is still actually a thing. Though it’s hard to say because the last “liberal from a conservative state” was probably Gore in 2000 (and he didn’t win Tennessee), and the last “conservative from a liberal state” was technically Trump but he was also running against someone from New York. And for what it’s worth Romney only won one of his three home states in 2012 (Utah, while losing Michigan and Massachusetts).

I found it darkly humorous that the people who embraced Trump the most were those who knew about him the least. New Yorkers especially people in NYC embraced him among the least. I forget though. What state was Romney listed as in 2012?
