re: #393 MandyManners

I agree but, it still is a troubling issue.

What if the operation had ruptured something and caused her to hemorraghe? When would her parents have been notified that she was seriously ill? What if she had had complications that night or the next day or two?

Well hypothetically if that happened and the girl was already in the clinic when it did happen or if hypothetically she went home from it and it happen and then somehow hid it from her parents, sought out medical care for it own and in either scenario insisted that her parents not be informed then medical confidentiality is protected. If a patient is conscious and lucid and has the ability to form consent then a hospital is under no obligation to inform anyone if the patient says no. Even teens have those rights. Though of course in reality if something that serious happened it would be difficult for the teen to keep it hidden so probably unlikely that if things went that bad the daughter wouldn’t give consent.

I’d be more concerned about the relationship between mother and daughter and why the daughter feels she has to keep this serious life issue hidden from her mother. To me it’s more a breakdown in mother daughter relationship.
