What on earth does that have to do with anything?
The Shema is:
“Hear, O Israel! (name of god) is our God, (name of god) alone.”
And that is what religious Jews believe.
What does that have to do with the importance of secular Zionism in the foundation of Israel, or the way that Herzl envisioned religion not playing a large part in the politics of Israel?
What do you think Israel means in that sentence? Who are we talking to?
