My understand of this is that soldiers only fire their weapons with orders to do so. On a domestic base, there should be no reason for every soldier to be on alert. Only MP would have weapons.

So, would you say the people in the Department of Defense feel their soldiers are safer without guns? That question goes to the point I am trying to make. And if soldiers, trained in guns, are safer on their base without them, then why aren’t ordinary citizens safer on the streets without others carrying guns?
