We stopped teaching civics a while back and this is what comes of it. Democracy is about choosing the better candidate from among those offered, not voting for your personal ideal choice of candidate.

And that really is the problem: Privilege and idealism have mixed into this toxic stew that says “If a candidate who fits your beliefs to a ‘t’ isn’t in the race, there’s no point to voting. Just wait 2-4 years and try again.”
