They want to feel like they’re doing something after they failed to do the simple thing that would save them from COVID because Republican propagandists told them to die to make a failed former President feel better.

It’s easy to go along with the order to risk death by doing nothing if you’re a right-wing authoritarian who falls in line, but it’s much harder when you actually face that death.
