Yes! I agree with you that the methodology is well defined and understood. At least by the gurus that study and implement these systems.

It seems to me that the context and goals of screening for ā€˜maliciousnessā€™ are the most complex and least agreed upon factors here.

I was thinking of the context for Covid testing. The tests are imperfect.

Does one weight for false positives or false negatives. More false positives in tests used for public access to services might limit peoplesā€™ lives undeservedly. More false negatives would allow sick people to circulate freely, increasing the danger the public.

Which public policy do we select? (This is not directed at Belefon. Who has made an excellent point. It is just a general philosophical question.)
