Ok, I don’t get the point of Kent’s first bit with the giant bugs. There still are giant bugs in the Amazon. There’s tarantulas the size of dinner plates, quite literally, with a leg span of about a foot. They call them “bird eaters.” Arachnophes need not look. And while not exactly 2 feet, the Titan Beetle is the size of a person’s hand. (Again, don’t click if large bugs creep you out.)

I think researcher have made insects such as roaches and beetles 10-20% bigger simply by putting them in a environment that has an higher percentage of CO2 then normal. I know they did it with plants.
