The idea of eliminating or capping deductions far predates Romney.

Indeed, I find this whole movement to rehabilitate Mitt Romney, which has popped up in a handful of stories the past week, kind of off-putting.

Of course Mitt didn’t invent the idea but it was an idea he put forward in his campaign. Obama didn’t invent healthcare reform and Bush didn’t invent the tax cuts he passed. All this stuff comes from advisers and think tanks. I think that goes without saying.
