Er, not quite. It’s perfectly legal to own a registered and transferable fully automatic “machine gun”. Just fill out the paperwork, pay for your tax stamp and have your local chief LEO sign off on it. Expensive toys but not illegal in most states (Washington state, forex does ban them. Wisconsin does not.)

AR-15 = Armalite 15. That was the company Gene Stoner worked for when designed the prototype of the M16 that would later be mass produced by Colt. That it the military version is, in fact, an assault rifle is actually co-incidence.

Thanks for the clarification. To be honest, I’m really surprised that they are legal in some states.
