Well if they were going to use their fight on any cabinet nominee, I think Sessions was the best one to do it on.

Sessions as AG can cause a lot of damage by ignoring civil rights cases and such.
DeVos can cause permanent damage by destroying the public education system, or turning it into Christian madrassas.

Bear in mind, her beliefs compel her to force religion into schools and science out.
