Abusers can be quite charming to anyone they have no plans on abusing. And they do it for the reason you just described, to fly under the radar and give the impression that they would never do such a thing.

This is one of many reasons women aren’t believed when they come forward. It also means, quite often, that the impression is that she’s a horrible lying shebeast that’s trying to destroy this fine upstanding guy.
