The difference with Trump and his deplorables is that I most definitely don’t want to love them.

Archie, for all his bigotry, was at heart a good soul, who would probably complain loudly about Somalis moving in next door while fighting anyone who dared light a cross in their yard. My late FIL, who was born in the Deep South, used the n* word liberally and said racist stuff that would set your hair on fire, but somehow managed to have black friends at work and among his Navy pals. He never saw the disconnect.

He was our own Archie Bunker.
