that’s a great damn idea, if we build a national net/web structure to make it so more people have more access to the world that interests them, is that a totally crappy goal?
Not IMO, but there still seems to be a pervasive attitude in a lot of the country (as Anymouse will attest) that fast, reliable Internet connections are some sort of frippery, or luxury service, rather than a fundamental component of 21st-Century economy/society.
And, as fripperies, considered (by Republicans, anyway) unsuitable for subsidy by taxpayer dollars*
* for customers, at any rate, they’ll be sure to find some excuse to shovel the money at telecom mega-corporations
