re: #416 A Mom Anon

I don’t think some guys get what a visit to PP is and all the services they provide. It’s comprehensive medical care for women, often the only care available to them, either for reasons of geography or finances,or both. PP also does pap smears for cervical cancer screenings, another important function, done on site. They give you a voucher that covers the cost or a part of the cost for a mammogram. In my case the mamogram was done at a local hospital for a really reduced rate. The machines used for mammograms are expensive, they are generally only found at hospitals or at large OB/GYN practices.

Many women(insured or not),use their OB/GYN as their primary care physician. Most OB/GYNs will also treat or give info and advice on medical stuff besides all those “lady bits” type of things. So PP is more than just about reproductive health, even though that is their prime function. I had a friend as a teen who had a PP doctor spot a melanoma on her stomach,so the beating up on Planned Parenthood and the rush to defund them is going to have serious long term consequences beyond the obvious reproductive health issues. It needs to stop.

Well yes, exactly. I haven’t used PP myself, but I know so many friends and family members that have. I can only hope that people honestly don’t understand the services they provide and just how goddamn important they are. Any talk of “defunding” PP makes my blood absolutely boil.
