Those darn cruisers were going away as I went in. 1977. Those gun cruiser were the shit. I know the marines probably aren’t pleased that the biggest gun in the fleet is a 5 inch. Sheesh. The did build a prototype 8 inch for the Spruance class DDs but it shook the hell out of the foc’sle and raised hell with the electronics. It was shelved.
