But the quality of a local school system essentially boils down to the community’s will. Good parents can cover a lot of ground, and are essential as well. But good parents *will* remove their children from a bad system since their primary goal is a good education for their child.

This right here is why we’re even considering home schooling our son. The local school system is renowned across the area as a center for drug trafficking and generally poor education (we live in a very rural, redneck-ish area), so we’re looking at either ponying up to put him in the Catholic school or else just doing it ourselves.
