As a Virginian, can you explain the context of a White person wearing black-face? What prompts it? What is it meant to demonstrate? I assume it generally occurs in settings when Black people aren’t around.

I’m a generation younger than these guys so consider that here. I can’t explain what prompts it since I’ve always had mixed groups of friends that I socialized with. One of my good friends growing up was from Peru for example. I don’t know what it’s meant to demonstrate to be honest. But I definitely think it’s one of those things that happens when black people arent’ around which is why it upsets me. It reminds me of how I have definitely been present when other whites have tried the just between us whites stuff when white people go off on minorities and say things they would never say in front of minorities.
