How about a policy where getting a gun is just like getting a drivers license, only serious - with a real background check. You and your gun are linked by a photo ID and you have to take actual gun safety classes and you have to maintain insurance and registration of the weapon.

I actually like this idea. I can’t even bring myself to type out my usual sarcastic snarky wingnut-tagged response.
