I’m not a political strategist either, but it is glaringly obvious that the further the GOP tacks to the right, the more they lose. Combine that with the Tea Partiers fanatical obsession with ideological purity, and the dismal future of the GOP looks pretty clear.

Throw in the inevitable demographic trends in this country and the GOP has two choices: join the rest of us in acknowledging every bit of social, scientific, and political progress we’ve made since Gutenberg invented moveable type or just go all the way and become a white supremacist fascist party.
