Can you explain why you were opposed to forced bussing (the dogwhistle the GOP used to mean desegregation)? The point of forced bussing was to require school districts that invested little money into minority schools to bring them up to standards in white-only schools.

Some of the forced bussing opponents are perfectly happy to have voluntary bussing, with incentives if need be. It’s totally legitimate, and not at all racist, to be unhappy about your kid being bussed an hour and a half away every day when there’s a school within walking distance of your home.
