It actually rather surprised me the first time I heard people talking about Virginia peanuts like it was some sort of delicacy. I’ve lived most of my life over in Hampton Roads, so when people talk food it’s usually local seafood of some variety. But the first time I took a road trip to see family back in Kentucky, it seemed like every rest stop west of Richmond had cans of peanuts proudly identifying themselves as coming from Virginia.

I thought that was unusual as well.

When I lived on the oceanfront in Virginia Beach, it was hard not to find crabs or oysters or whatnot.

Go inland though and it’s peanuts everywhere. I guess crabs and oysters can’t get through the Hampton Roads, Downtown, or Midtown Tunnels. /s
