For the first time in my life, I am beginning to think that I can truly understand what it felt like to live as a sane German in the waning days of the Weimar Republic, as the writing on the wall became clearer and clearer and the rise of the Nazi flood began to sweep away the last remnants of decency and shame among the petit bourgeois troglodytes who made up its stinking waves.

It is not a good feeling at all.

That is where I was a year and a half ago.

This is what the rise of fascism looks like.
