re: #37 Charles Johnson

I have a serious difference with Frum, though - he gives Breitbart a pass on racism, says it was purely a tool for him.

I think that’s a ridiculous excuse. Breitbart is infamous for reasons that quite clearly can be traced to his manipulation of right wing race memes. It was one of his constant themes, repeated over and over.

He enabled and promoted racial grievance politics, and when I pointed out that his audience was reacting to that in exactly the way you’d expect, by spewing overtly racist comments, Breitbart’s response was to viciously attack me and claim that I was somehow involved with planting all those comments.

At what point would David Frum consider Breitbart a racist? At the very least, he was a seriously vicious race-baiter.

I agree. When I got to that section in Frum’s piece I found myself shaking my head in disagreement. But the rest of the piece makes very good points. Especially if you consider Frum’s position in the conservative environment. On the racist argument Ta-Nehisi Coates makes the case in On Making Yourself Right.
