A trait shared by many a GOPer in office - a lack of empathy towards others (regardless of how well off or not that person is).

Empathy is clearly a disadvantage for getting ahead in GOP politics.

I’m convinced that Perry’s moment of sanity with respect to immigration is what really knocked him out of the 2012 GOP primary.
