re: #401 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds

In hindsight, we can shake our heads at the practice, but we have to remember that the Soviets were gobbling up men and technology from the Reich as quickly as we were. They basically ripped up entire factories, down to the smallest parts, and carted them back to Mother Russia to rebuild and upgrade their own forces. The scientists were given their own Faustian bargain: Work for us or spend the rest of your days in Siberia (if you even make it that far).

I’m afraid, among other things, that the practice led to a sort of normalizing of the Nazis that is still with us. I still see here, people insisting that our present enemies are more brutal, less civilized, less reachable than the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese.

It’s difficult for me to understand how we’ve glossed over history to the point where we’ve forget what demons we fought and beat once.
