I think I’ve found one of those ‘voices of moderation’ on the freeper thread:

“Until such time as anarchy prevails, this is not the right behavior.

Shooting causes more shooting.”

This guy’s crime was that he just didn’t wait for the signal./

I’ve long thought that the anonymity that forums provide allows some people’s “inner psycho” to be released. They feel they can say anything with impunity, and I think we’ve seen examples of that here over the years.

Speech is power and anonymous speech can oft be incredibly destructive and violently provocative.

Personally, I’ve made it a point to never make myself totally anonymous; it keeps me honest. I understand that job considerations and such may make that impractical for some and that’s a valid consideration. Still, the anonymity is something I find troubling.
