re: #431 EdDantes
Among the thoughts that strike me is that as a society we can’t deal with mourning (any more) - it just becomes one more thing for entertainment, amusement, and theatre. And to cover up the discomfort of that stirring deep in our subconscious we find fig-leaves for our naked souls.
Another thought: what is now considered the greatest speech in American polity, over what was the single largest act of mass violence to occur in our history, was only 3 paragraphs long.
Yet another thought: Over 150,000 people die every day around the world, a number of them violently and even more painfully from easily treated conditions/diseases. For example, in Haiti the latest cholera epidemic has already claimed over 3700 people (who die a painful death) - a disease that is 100% preventable. Of all the people who died today, how many had no one to mourn their passing?
Anyway, I’ve got a whole list of these thoughts… which haven’t gelled into a cohesive enough unit to put into a proper essay in a Page.
