I think that the Democrats would have to nominate a spectacularly bad candidate. Its hard to imagine Trump could win again with 46% of the vote, and I don’t see him doing much to broaden his base.

Trump still has the press in his thrall, and he is good at creating the impression of wealth and success where none exist. I can imagine he and the GOP Congress will be able pull off some serious economic sleight-of-hand to convince enough gullible people that he job on the economy and will be able to maintain that illusion until at least November of 2020…
