The nukes ended the war with Japan because as far as they were aware we had an unlimited supply, and nobody else had any.

Even without the nukes, Japan’s strategic situation in 1945 was totally untenable. They had already lost the war.

The nukes persuaded Japan to surrender, which spared all parties the bloodbath of an invasion of Japan.
