I think that’s a problem. The overuse of the accusation provides cover for some serious racists. The accusation of racism loses a lot of it’s power when thrown around too lightly.

Or, the more obvious solution: there are greater and less forms of racism. This is a lesser form. That doesn’t mean it’s not still racism.

Someone casually being racist out of ignorance is still being racist; obviously portraying other races as a caricature is a classical example of ignorant racism. It’s not as bad as someone asserting black people are all moochers who are looking for handouts and free stuff, but it’s still racism.

Nuance is a thing.
