Starting some kind of unofficial dialogue with the North Vietnamese after their victory at Dien Bien Phu probably would’ve been a good idea, in retrospect.

Ho Chi Minh was hardly a fanatic - we could’ve worked with him. He was a fairly pragmatic fellow.
