1956 vs. today. Back in 1956, firearms were largely seen as tools. Today, RWNJs look at firearms as a political statement while simultaneously festishizing about them.

The fetishizing of guns can’t be a healthy sign for a society. Those obsessed with guns seem to think that the 2nd Amendment is more important than the 1st. Indeed, one of their written-in-stone talking points is that First Amendment freedoms would be impossible without the Second Amendment. Funny how that doesn’t really hold true in western Europe, Japan, Australia, and quite a few other places. But I don’t think you can expect people who salivate over firearms as their American birthright to know (or care) much about the rest of the world.
