re: #433 A Mom Anon

Thing is, you go into a place and ask to talk to the hiring manager and they tell you to either go to their handy dandy in store job application kiosk or go home and fill out an application and they’ll get back to you. That’s how it is now unless you go to a small independent business and fill out a physical job app. Trust me, I’ve been at this for nearly 3 yrs now. I have filled out more than one application for the same place. I go in and try to talk to people. I’m not a person who gives up easy, but this shit is ridiculous.

It goes back to their fantasy about tradition. That in the “good old days” all you have to do was fill out a job application and you could get a job on the spot. That kind of experience is very rare especially if you’re a college graduate. And there’s so much resume tailoring and cover letter tailoring. Getting a job in itself these days is a job. I don’t propose to have all the answers but I do think we’d benefit if employers saw their employees more like people rather than just someone they could pay cheaply as possible so they could get more for themselevs.
