Being blackout drunk is only an excuse for not remembering you did it. If you were ever blackout drunk during high school, you could say as much and throw yourself on the mercy of the public and say, “I’d like to think this isn’t something I’d do, but honestly I can’t swear I didn’t, because I sometimes got so drunk I don’t remember doing it.”

You might lose the SCOTUS seat, but at least you keep your soul.
