According to the vote count and the level of sarcasm contained with in the comments… I declare Nov. 4th, 2009 as a red letter day and big win for the GOP (sans that silly little waste of time in NY23).

Addendum to my comment : It may take some time, it may not even be done on a large scale basis, but I would bet if you looted closely at all the local races for this and that on Nov. 4th, 2009, you will also find an interesting in roads made by the GOP and the Independents toward a less government and moderate conservatism.

I know locally, in a blue state, there were a number of small surprises. Small, because in general there was no really big issues being considered, but surprises, because of the unexpected outcomes that spoke of more conservative level of voting.
