Yeah, back in high school, I actually tried to write an Agatha Christie-style mystery novel. I also wrote a short story that featured a lengthy description of someone’s disemboweled intestines. So clearly, I was plotting to kill someone.

OK, nobody’s gonna believe me, but when I was in high school I did a senior paper based on Macbeth, which we were studying at the time. The protagonist was LBJ, who was vice president at the time. He kills JFK, with Ladybird’s fierce encouragement (Texas accents in blank verse). I only made it to Act II, where the couple were plotting against RFK as well. The key point is that I wrote this in the spring of 1963. If the teacher or the school, or for that matter anyone else, remembered it, I probably would have had a visit from men in conservative suits in the late fall of that year, and might be cited in various grassy-knoll-type CTs to this day.
