Damn! You guys are all over the pirates now. Well, I was gonna say:

Some of you are wishing that the grassroots movement around the “Tea Parties” would not be so embarrassing.

I suspect the primary reason is that the movement is negative in attitude — these folks know what they don’t like; they don’t seem to know, however, what they do want.

It’s one thing to say that the bailouts are bringing socialism, and that’s bad, or that raising taxes on the top bracket by three points is class warfare, and that’s evil. What they’re not saying is: “here is our alternate, superior plan.”

I can’t see that they have one.

Last year you witnessed the success of a grassroots movement which elected our new President. The movement drew its fuel partially from a backlash against Bush’s value system, but more importantly, it fed on a positive movement for liberal values.

We saw something similar in 1979-80, with the Reagan Revolution.

When sane, moderate conservatives put forth a positive program of fiscal responsibility, separation of church and state, and firm but prudent foreign policy, the conservatives will return to influence and power.
