I had been accepted to do enumeration work for the Census back before CV19.
Orientation was put off until late June here.
I went early July boro building here.
Supposed to be 7 but 5 showed up.
Out of 5 of us, 2 were clean morons.
Long story short: Meeting went to shit as those 2 had to pick apart everything that was just explained to them. To the point of distraction.
We were then told 15 minutes before the end we were not going to be going door to door, but to “group homes”.
You can figure out what that means.
I asked who would we be dealing with, not the individuals I hope?
Oh we were assured only the “staff” would be our contacts and we would not be on personal contact with “residents”.
Then they told us there was a test to take in the book.
The book we never opened. Among all the other shit we had in a big box.
The test was about swearing in people to do our job if the “staff” didn’t get around to actually doing their job.
Huh?
And that we may be transferred and work a different county.
What?
And we were being paid less than some of the other counties around us, but we would not receive the rate in the county we might be working.
Pardon me?
I went home and looked at the test.
For 2 months paid?
Gone. Bye bye.
That was my experience, and I’m sure it’s worse elsewhere.
For under 15 bucks an hour?
No way.
