Here’s where the major outrage began: Gore, Current silent as cleric affirms death penalty for leaving Islam on Al-Jazeera The “translated” quote is:

“Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:33 says: ‘The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His apostle is that they should be murdered or crucified,’” Qaradawi quoted on his show.

Searching the quote only results in one Daily Caller hit.

Couple of things. That’s not Sharia, but Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:33 from the Quran. Others have mentioned that this is once again subject to translation, and interpretation as with most religious texts. Yusuf al-Qaradawi however remains a rather controversial figure that is given a voice by Al Jazeera.
