The fetishizing of guns can’t be a healthy sign for a society. Those obsessed with guns seem to think that the 2nd Amendment is more important than the 1st. Indeed, one of their written-in-stone talking points is that First Amendment freedoms would be impossible without the Second Amendment. Funny how that doesn’t really hold true in western Europe, Japan, Australia, and quite a few other places. But I don’t think you can expect people who salivate over firearms as their American birthright to know (or care) much about the rest of the world.

Moreover, the gun fetishists believe the sole purpose of the 2A is to keep the government fearful of the citizenry and that the 2A exists so citizens can overthrow the government when they see fit. These are not fringe views. These views are prevalent among the right including elected officials. Scary shit.
