I was listening to a report yesterday about Rural Food Deserts. Seems like between Walmart lowering prices on staples to compete with Amazon, and the population drain you mention, more and more small local grocers are going out of business, leaving large swaths of rural America >10 miles from a supermarket.

So, no. Not moving to rural Nebraska. Where would I get my Kalamata olives and Sopressata?

BTW, I’m most familiar with Rural Food Desserts, having grown up in fruit country.

I have to drive to Kroger >25 miles away for my Kalamata olives and other favorite food items I am unable to raise on my farm. OTOH, there is the Dollar General store 7 miles away that’s good enough for basic food staples.
