I explained manual shifting on a bike to a customer this way: ‘Yes, it’s a one speed. So when you want to shift, bring it into the shop and we’ll overhaul the crank and put it back together with a smaller (or larger, if you want a higher gear) front sprocket.’

My sister who moved to Florida got a beach cruiser bike. Her husband told her she needed at least 5 gears.

For what? It’s FLORIDA.
