I have to drive to Kroger >25 miles away for my Kalamata olives and other favorite food items I am unable to raise on my farm. OTOH, there is the Dollar General store 7 miles away that’s good enough for basic food staples.

Driving 25 or more miles AND relying on Dollar stores is exactly what the report discussed.

The biggest problem with trying to reverse this is that small independent grocers can’t compete for price with Walmart’s prices on a lot of staples, and larger chains don’t see a population large enough to support a store.
