Honestly, the smart and decent answer for Kirk would have been to agree politely with her statement and just explain that him and Duckworth have different positions. There was no reason at all to do what he did unless he thought it was going to get him brownie points from the deplorable wing of the GOP which probably doesn’t trust him much anyhow since he likes to play both sides.

Kirk was probably thinking “What can I say that will make me sound like Donald Trump” forgetting that to normal people, Donald Trump always sounds like a total dipshit.
