In particular, my father-in-law is older and also much worn from the stress of life - he runs his own business, among other things. I think he’s just getting to the point where he doesn’t want to have to think about anything anymore, and really, who can blame him? It just sucks to see it happening. For the record, I’ve also been well-acquainted with some of the types where questioning the minister is severely frowned upon; my family got thrown out of such a church. It came out later that the minister in question wound up getting dismissed later on, and we were vindicated.
