Yes, Thiel made the ground level and allowed justice to take place. The rest was the court’s job based on Gawker’s behavior.

The same Thiel tried to do the same thing to Mother Jones last year, and lost, but it cost MJ millions. The fact that justice was arguably served in each case doesn’t make it any less chilling, that billionaires may choose to spend small fractions of their fortunes bankrupting publications they don’t like, even without a good cause of action, because they can.

One of the problems of our civil justice system is that it favors the very rich, who can pay lawyers to fuck around with less well-heeled folks for years.
