When the Irish came here, their lives became infinitely better than the slaves. However, back in Ireland, their condition was very dire. If the comparison is in their life here, there is no comparison — they were not slaves and had opportunities that were closed to African Americans.

That’s the one I’ve seen slavery apologists make - that the Irish were treated as badly as or worse than blacks. This is based on a single misinterpreted throwaway line from some Jamaican governor of the 18th Century, IIRC.

Then the usual next step is to conflate slavery and indentured servitude, and then finish off by talking about black slaveowners.
