I have this incomplete thought about the way aestheticism is so deeply imbedded in authoritarian thinking, and it applies to this gun/knife bit. Basically…impressions that evoke strong emotions are True, in the epistemological sense, so everything, including policy, becomes about what looks good on a very shallow level.

All of that shit about “blood everywhere” and “stab wounds” is about squeamishness and the impression of violence with a knife being worse violence because it’s more…viscerally ugly…fits into that pattern.
