True but it’s been mainstreamed by candidates. Robertson was running two years after Reagan did an amnesty. It’s not new but it is new that the President of the United States is an unapologetic opponent of immigrants. Nixon and Reagan and Bush were awful in ways different from their immigration policy.

It was mainstream for conservatives then. It’s been mainstream for conservatives for a long time.

Plenty of conservative politicians have run on anti-immigrant platforms (or keeping Americans in America). This is really nothing new. (Conservatives don’t do “new.”)
